In addition to the courses listed above, students may propose a graduate level course to count as an elective to meet the needs of the International Research Ethics concentration. In order for an elective to be counted towards this concentration, it must meet the following criteria:

A course may be approved if it fills at least one of the following:

  • Further in-depth examination of the philosophical foundations of bioethics or medical research
  • Further in-depth examination of health issues from an international perspective
  • Further in-depth examination of concepts/issues/or topics in research ethics

A course may be approved if it fills at least one of the criteria listed in each group below:

    Group 1

  • Appropriate to the student’s field of interest within international research ethics
  • Appropriate to the student’s educational background and/or goals

AND

    Group 2

  • Covers specific issues/topics in international research ethics
  • Covers specific issues/topics in research ethics
  • Provides a cultural context within which to examine issues/topics in international research
  • Provides a different field’s approach to ethical issues that arise in the context of international research
