A Bioethics Expansion?: Putting Agency Before Autonomy
Introduction:
In this Grand Rounds presentation, Dr. Craig will argue that bioethics should expand beyond traditional patient autonomy to support broader “health-seeker agency” based on a study of Indiana’s Medicaid expansion program, the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). As designed, HIP gives members personal responsibility incentives to “take charge of their health care.” Drawing on a community-valued study with HIP members and stakeholders across the state, this talk proposes an expansion of bioethics from protecting patient autonomy to a broader moral investment in supporting health-seeker agency.
