Advocacy in Research

Introduction:

On December 2019, Jody Madeira, JD, PhD gave a presentation titled "Doing Research and Doing Advocacy: Ethical engagement with controversial issues." Dr. Madeira discusses problem-driven research, which is research that has the purpose of effecting change; examples are sustainability, ecology, biology, medicine, and public health. While these research endeavors may be intended to aid or respond to a social concern or risk, the research must retain its objectivity and rigor. Dr. Madeira responds to this dilemma from a research ethics perspective.
