Return of Results: Finding the floor and the ceiling

Introduction:

On June 26, 2019, Dr. Peter H. Schwartz, MD, PhD, gave a talk as part of the Clinical Research Education Series at the IU School of Medicine entitled, "Return of Results: Finding the floor and the ceiling." Dr. Schwartz begins the presentation with several case scenarios. In these cases, researchers who are doing non-therapeutic procedures find ancillary research results that may have life-threatening implications for participants. What are the researchers' obligations in these cases? Dr. Schwartz discusses several factors to take into consideration, and what level of actionability exists for the researchers.
