Community-Led Research Governance: Is it time to reconsider expertise in research ethics? (NYU Grossman School of Medicine)

Monday, April 20, 2026

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

-

Join the NYU Grossman School of Medicine for "Community-Led Research Governance: Is it time to reconsider expertise in research ethics?" This talk will be led by Phoebe Friesen, PhD, an Associate Professor in the Department of Equity, Ethics, & Policy, and Social Studies of Medicine at McGill University.

This talk will present data from a scoping review exploring the strategies, demands, and justifications of communities engaged in research governance. An examination of the many efforts on the part of communities to assert agency in research ethics raises important questions regarding expertise, injustice, and the status quo.
