Peter H. Schwartz, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Medicine, Indiana University School of Medicine
Innovative research to develop and implement medical breakthroughs often raises complex ethical questions. Frequently there are no simple right or wrong answers, and regulations are absent or murky when applied to innovative methods and approaches.
The Bioethics and Subject Advocacy Program (BSAP) of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) works with researchers, trainees, and leadership to support ethical research, effective communication with patients and research participants, and the responsible conduct of research.
BSAP supports translational research on all four campuses of the Indiana CTSI by:
Collaborate over extended periods with high-risk, high-reward research programs in areas such as precision health.
Conducting research on research ethics itself, identifying and disseminating best practices.
BSAP is directed by Dr. Peter Schwartz, Director of the IU Center for Bioethics, with faculty members from IU School of Medicine, IU Health, Purdue, IU Bloomington, and Notre Dame. The program is managed by Tah Yogo, MA.
